February 2015 Mission Trip
We had another wonderful trip to Nicaragua. Our team delivered 103 brand new Spanish books to the elementary School in Empalme de Boaco. We also reinforced our ministry children’s library with over 200 books.
Our audiology team was able to fit 19 new hearing aids and performed 54 follow up hearing aid check ups in addition to new hearing evaluations. Many of the children received speech therapy with their families to help develop language skills. It was so encouraging to see the progress so many of the kids have made with their hearing aids. Several of them who had no spoken language were now speaking and able to understand language. Our team encouraged their families to continue working with them to build their vocabulary and understanding of spoken language. It was truly a blessing to see these children.
Our surgical team performed 19 surgeries most of them for sick gallbladders and to correct hernias. Two patients in the hospital made decisions of faith to trust in Jesus and everyone received prayers and encouragement from our dedicated team. Our medical team was able to provide care to about 600 patients and treated 1,000 individuals with anti-parasite medication to eradicate parasites in the community. Our children’s team led an amazing vacation Bible school that focused on teaching the children to “shine like stars” for Christ. The children learned their key verse from Philippians 2:14: ” Do everything without complaining or arguing, so that you may become blameless and pure, children of God in a crooked and depraved generation, in which YOU SHINE LIKE STARS”What a sight to go in the church and see all the stars hanging from the ceiling! They enjoyed crafts, movie time, singing, worship dance, story time, and so many other activities. In the late afternoon, the kids enjoyed playing baseball with our team. So many seeds were planted in the hearts of the children.
Our construction team was able to bless two young families with children. They improve their homes by providing a solid foundation, framing the home and providing a metal roof. The locals will finish working on the homes by pouring a concrete slab and closing off the walls. Our team was able to build relationships with the workers and family members. We were able to pray and encourage these young families. During the week, 34 decisions of faith were made for Jesus! We praise GOD for allowing all of us to be part of His kingdom work and to witness His great love for humanity.
